Brand Case Study

Hand-painted pet portraits, made with acrylics on wood panels, turning a photo into a keepsake that stays in the family for good. This case study covers the full brand build: logo, color palette, typography, and how it all shows up on real, painted pieces.

Name & Logo

The name is a small piece of wordplay: paw prints and portraits, folded into one word — Dori Pawtraits. It’s also a tribute. Dori was my dog for seventeen years, and she’s the reason this whole thing exists. The logo is her face, turned into a mark the brand carries with it everywhere.

“by Jess” signature

A hand-painted piece always has a person behind it, and I wanted mine to be part of the story too. That’s why the logo reads “by Jess” underneath Dori’s face — a small signature that keeps the artist and the art together.

Color Palette

The palette starts with a dusty pink that stands for tenderness — the softness at the heart of every commission. Olive green brings in something grounded and natural, echoing the outdoors every pet loves. Brown and cream round things out as supporting tones, a quiet nod to the wood panels each portrait is painted on.

Typeface

Since every portrait is painted by hand, the lettering had to feel that way too — a little imperfect, warm, and personal. It’s what keeps the brand reading as cozy and approachable instead of polished and distant.

Packaging

Packaging follows the same instinct as everything else: a plain cardboard box, tied with natural cord instead of anything shiny or synthetic. Small handmade touches — like a tag with the pet’s name — turn opening the box into one more personal moment, in keeping with a brand that’s built on care.
